We all tend to get reinforcement for what we do and why we do it from advisors. Some of those advisors are directly engaged with our decisions, yet many are strangers to us in the form of experts. The experts write about concepts and success stories and occasionally admit to failures.
Business concepts are highly important since what we do is based on applying theories and fine-tuning those theories and models over time. Over time, I have collected a few quotes I would like to share with you. Be forewarned – they reinforce the use of analytics for business since that is how we help our customers.
Let me start with a quote that explains how vulnerable businesses run today and why they are being overrun by more informed enterprises. “Most of the world will make decisions by either guessing or using their gut. They will be either lucky or wrong.”- Suhail Doshi. How long can your luck hold up?
Another way to identify vulnerable businesses is they are being outmaneuvered by enterprises which use powerful machine resources that used to only be available to large companies. Geoffrey Moore said; “Without big data analytics, companies are blind and deaf, wandering out onto the Web like deer on a freeway.” – Geoffrey Moore Now smaller business can afford to use big data tools and systems to fight back. In addition, companies like ours are here to help you ask the right questions.
We firmly believe what Jennifer wrote; “Our ability to do great things with data will make a real difference in every aspect of our lives.” – Jennifer Pahlka. This applies even more to your business life. Great successes are being achieved by creative and consistent use of analytics for business.
Even baseball managers now depend upon analytics to succeed; “We’ve got to use every piece of data and piece of information, and hopefully that will help us be accurate with our player evaluation. For us, that’s our lifeblood.” – Billy Beane, General Manager Oakland A’s.
If you are planning to use of analytics for business, then this quote should reinforce your direction; “It’s difficult to imagine the power that you’re going to have when so many different sorts of data are available.”- Tim Berners-Lee. We deliver dozens of models to assist you in making decisions and they only need to engage a human when those decisions are outside of your range of acceptability.
Finally, if you think simply upgrading your software will be your answer, I humbly disagree. Tim O’Reilly says it well; “We’re entering a new world in which data may be more important than software.”- Tim O’Reilly. This quote may be a bit more personal to me than you. I have helped well over 400 enterprises select and implement their Enterprise Systems. For decades we improved the business processes to make my customers more efficient and profitable. Now the icing on the cake is being applied in the form of analytics for business. We are helping companies prosper while using their mature systems and massive amounts of data that has been stored. I am in the right place to make a difference. Do you want to join me?
